8 REASONS TO HIRE A PROFESSIONAL WEDDING PLANNER OVER A FRIEND

Planning a wedding can seem like an overwhelming task. Let’s be honest, it’s not every day that an average person plans a swanky formal event for upwards of hundreds of people. Instead, you are busy planning your own life: going to work, going to school, buying a house, starting a new job, raising kids. You are busy! So, you need help planning the perfect wedding you’ve always dreamed of. As you begin to plan, you may be tempted to cut corners and hire friends instead of professionals. BUT I implore you… hire the professional!!! (And between you and me, the professional wedding planner can help you save money & cut corners even better.)

So let’s get to it, 8 reasons to hire a professional wedding planner instead of a friend! (Friends, you are AWESOME, but I am going to keep you in the ‘friend zone’ for now!)

  1. PROFESSIONAL WEDDING PLANNERS ARE CONNECTED IN THE INDUSTRY

Planners can assist you in finding great vendors who are a joy to work with. A professional can recommend countless photographers, videographers, and caterers within YOUR budget. A friend may know the vendors they used, but they will have limited knowledge compared to a professional who is already networking with other vendors.

  1. PROFESSIONAL WEDDING PLANNERS HAVE EXPERIENCE

Planning and coordinating weddings is our job and we’ve had tons of experience with all types of weddings and couples. A professional wedding planner does more than just tell the wedding party when to walk down the aisle. They know how many chairs to put at each table, how to set a formal place setting, and remember to set out the unity sand for the ceremony. A planner’s experience is your luxury when you hire a professional.

  1. YOUR FRIENDSHIP WON’T BE HARMED

If you hire a planner, you won’t have to worry about harming a friendship if you accidentally turn into a Bridezilla. I’m sure this would never happen because you’re lovely and kind, but sometimes, Bridezilla happens and wedding planners know how to handle it. (I’ll probably offer you a sandwich.)

  1. PLANNERS AREN’T EASILY SURPRISED

Whatever issues may arise on your wedding day, a professional wedding planner has probably seen it before and knows how to fix it. Wedding planners are seldom surprised by wedding mishaps. They fix the issue without the couple knowing a problem ever existed.

  1. PLANNERS COME PREPARED

You will never find me at a wedding without my trusty “wedding day emergency kit”. When I coordinate a wedding, I arrive with 30-50 “emergency” items ranging from boutonniere pins to deodorant. Professional planners are always ready to save the day. Spill something on your dress; we’ve got something for that. A groomsmen is too hung over, we’ve got something for that, too.

  1. YOU ARE TOP PRIORITY

A professional planner is focused on you and your wedding. Our commitment is not simply to you as a friend, but your needs as a client. I’ve seen well-meaning friends offer to decorate for a wedding, but show up hours late. They did not know how long decorating should take; therefore the ceremony started late. A friend’s willingness to help is very thoughtful, but inexperience can cause big problems on wedding day.

  1. AVOID THE AWKWARD

Let’s face it, owing friends money or favors can get awkward. You don’t want to offend your friend by paying them too little, but you also want to save money by not paying them a lot. You won’t have this issue with a professional. A wedding planner will give you a set price with clear expectations upfront. Choosing a professional will help you avoid offending your friend if you don’t pay them what they feel they deserve.

  1. YOU WANT YOUR FRIENDS TO BE GUESTS, NOT THE HIRED HELP

Wouldn’t you rather have your friend by your side or enjoying your wedding as a guest? Your wedding is meant to be a celebration for all your guests, so let your friends enjoy themselves; instead of worrying if the caterer arrived on time or if you have enough napkins. Leave the worrying to the professionals; they won’t resent you for it later.

Keep your friends close on wedding day, you will cherish the memories you make together.
