Vendor Spotlight: Katie Sams of Red Boat Photography in Knoxville, TN

Vendor Spotlight

In an effort to introduce you to the wonderful vendors I’ve met in the wedding industry, I am compiling a new series called, ‘Vendor Spotlight”! I am SO excited for you all to meet my new friends and hopefully hire some of these wonderful people for your wedding or special occasion! Today’s vendor spotlight is devoted to my sweet friend, Katie of Red Boat Photography. She is so kind and I have enjoyed getting to know her and her cute baby while we navigate business ownership and entrepreneurship together. It is always a blessing to have friends along this journey. So without further a-do, meet my friend Katie and learn about the cool way we met.

This is my friend Katie and her husband, Alex. They are the husband/wife photography team behind Red Boat Photography.

How/ where did you meet Megan?

I actually met Megan after doing an instagram search of #knoxvilleweddingplanners. I felt I needed to add new connections to my current circle of vendor friends. When I saw her work I was amazed that she was a relatively new planner! After exchanging several emails and texts, we met for lunch, and the rest was pretty much history! Shortly after that, we worked on a styled shoot for The Bride Link. I really enjoy working with Megan!

What’s your favorite food?

Pizza. YUM!

Other than your career, what do you love to do in your spare time?

I love to spend time with my husband Alex, and 15-month old son Hutch. We like to hike and go on day trips when possible.

What’s something cool about you that a lot of people don’t know?

My wedding-vendor friends are always surprised to learn that I’m a Registered Nurse. I feel like that’s a pretty boring detail but its cool to others haha.

Why do you love what you do (your business)?

I think it’s just amazing to be a part of peoples’ most memorable moments in their life. I’ve been present for surprise engagements where their lives change in a split second (for the better!), I’ve photographed the last photo of a grandmother who passed away shortly after, and I’ve photographed a family portrait session where the father was battling an aggressive cancer. I just think it’s an insane honor to capture these moments for people. And to offer them a creative and beautiful way to remember these moments…that’s everything.

How would you describe what you do?

Echoing my response to the last question, I would say capturing precious moments in a creative and beautiful way.

What were some of your favorite photos you took this year? And why?

Katie said, “These images were some of my favorites from 2016 for several reasons.

I was at a very low point when I met the folks at Spring House, a wedding venue in Winston Salem, NC. I was feeling beaten down in life and as a wedding photographer. I won’t go into all the details, but trust me when I say it was a low point in my career.

As I photographed this wedding, I was constantly amazed at how sincerely and genuinely kind their staff was. They were as concerned about me as they were the guests! They made sure I was hydrated and was comfortable. I was blown away at their kindness. I have photographed at huge venues such as The Biltmore Estate, down to the tiniest of church weddings, and I’ve never been treated with such kindness and compassion. Their hearts for service were evident in the way they operated. I was encouraged and refreshed.

When I look at these images I smile because I am reminded there are really good people in this industry. I feel the same way about Megan.”

See what I mean, Katie is the sweetest! And I agree with Katie that finding sincere and kind vendors in the wedding industry makes ALL the difference!
