What is a Premarital Counselor?
I’m often asked: What is a premarital counselor? or What do couples do in premarital counseling?
A premarital counselor works with couples, typically after engagement, and before their wedding. Curriculum involves discussing topics vital to a thriving marriage. Premarital counseling works to ensure you and your partner understand each other’s expectations of your marriage commitment. In a session, we will discuss family dynamics, communication, finances, spirituality, values, ways to fight fair and much more.
What is premarital counseling?
Premarital counseling is a way to confirm that you and your partner are on the same page. The sessions are a safe place to passionately discuss hot topics with a trained third party present. Attending premarital counseling does NOT mean that you and your future spouse have problems. In fact it’s the opposite. Going to premarital counseling shows that you value your relationship and want to ensure you are entering the covenant of marriage with the strongest possible foundation.
Should I attend premarital counseling before I get married?
If you are still on the fence about whether or not you and your partner should attend premarital counseling, consider this.
I often use this analogy when describing premarital counseling to couples.

You want your house to last forever and withstand the storms. Right? Why not invest in your house (relationship) now, to guarantee that you are standing on a firm foundation.
